Kemi Sulola is a Singer Songwriter Artist and Music Entrepreneur born and raised in East London.

With reminiscent tones and a sound often linked to the golden era of RnB, the British soul singer and songwriter brings that feel good and free vibe to her listeners. Recognised by Icons such as Janet Jackson and Trevor Nelson. Kemi has received radio support from BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, and Amazing Radio. Her music has also reached audiences around the world from the U.S.A , South Africa and France all the way to Japan.
From The Jazz Café and KOKO Camden to international stages, her soulful melodies resonates bringing a refreshing touch to the music scene.

She has a penchant for authentic messaging in her songwriting, with messages that are of positivity, warmth , love and the many other realities of life. Her songwriting has led her to being invited to writing camps with Sony Music and other independent artists. As well as invited to speak at the ICMP songwriting conference on her songwriting journey.

Additionally, she plays an active role in the wider community through her role as an ambassador for Girls Talk Global, a female focused tech company and health organisation Sarcoidosis Uk

As the founder of her own studio ‘Sulola Music Studio’ , she offers studio rental and music services such vocal and artist development coaching She nurtures emerging talent through collaborative, inclusive programmes for example free community music projects in partnership with The Kings Trust. Her creative offerings also extend into bespoke experiences like the Air RnB Experience, hosted on Airbnb, which invites guests to create their own custom songs in an intimate studio setting.

She has received awards by her peers, such as Best New Artist by Style and Sound and Memorable Act by MOTs. Her expertise has led her to be invited to join the Brit Award Voting members and the Ivors Education Working Group, all further amplifying her intentions and mission to be a positive attribute to the music industry.

Through participation in panels, events, and research initiatives, Kemi's voice resonates, amplifying her intentions and mission to be a positive attribute to the industry in addition to her musical projects. Her Story

About

Her first release was an 8 track E.P project called ‘Fallen For You’, which gained recognition in the music industry and had radio play from several stations, such as BBC Radio 1xtra, Capital Xtra , Raw Soul radio and support from other media outlets. RnB don Trevor Nelson mentioned how he had enjoyed playing the EP in his car. The project is a blend of soul and RnB music and has been described as ‘refreshing, versatile and soulful’.

From there, Kemi made her first solo television performance on London Live TV, performing an acoustic version of her original song ‘Your Lady’, which was one of the leading songs from the EP. After the EP Kemi went on to release other singles, such as ‘Nothing Compares’ that has been praised amongst the independent soul community, gaining positions on the Breaking Artists independent chart show and the independent chart show . The single was later remixed by Manny Talvez , giving the track a summery funky vibe, listen here.

The music video for her track ‘Raindrops’ premiered onGUAP magazine and received acclaim from platforms like You Know I Got Soul.
Kemi has also released charity singles such as ‘Justice’ and 'New Form’ supporting BLAM Charity and Sarcoidosis UK respectively.

The multi-version release "IF" has resonated with diverse audiences, with its garage version featured in GUAP Magazine’s Monday Mood playlist , the reggae version supported by ChaaWaa Radio and Reggae Fraternity UK and the original getting a lot of love in Japan by DJ Taro.

In 2023, she ventured into AI-generated music with "VTGO," securing a top-three spot in an international contest and leading to speaking engagements on AI in music. Her latest single, "T.I.M.Y." was lauded as an "instant classic" by SoulTracks and featured on Amazon Music UK's +44 R&B playlist.

Kemi's collaborative spirit is evident in her diverse projects. She contributed "Countdown" to the Growing Pains compilation album, alongside artists like Skepta, AJ Tracey, and Nadia Rose, with the track receiving coverage from Complex UK and Fader, as well as played on BBC Radio. A remix of Countdown was also featured on a remix compilation that was later released.

Internationally, she participated in the Soulfest Collective's cover of ‘Be Optimistic’ which featured 10 other artists . In 2021 she orchestrated and formed "Diaspora 7," uniting female artists from Kenya, the Dominican Republic, and South Africa for a rendition of "Black Pride." for Black History month and women’s month.

Her duet "Real Love" with American artist Trusoul Davis reached the top 5 on Amazon's R&B new releases chart. Kemi has also co-written for artists like Josh Hicks and J Hope and has been invited to songwriting camps at Sony Music and Chris Difford.
Night Ride produced by Giles and feating Lemzi also received support from BBC Introducing and Groover Music.

Kemi has graced renowned venues across London, including Troy Bar, Roundhouse, Islington Assembly Hall, and The Jazz Café. She has supported major acts like Stormzy, Krept and Konan at KOKO Camden, as well as PJ Morton, and Teedra Moses at The Hideaway. Notably, she performed for members of the royal family, receiving commendation from HRH Earl of Wessex. She has performed at numerous showcases and events such as So Far Sounds, Vocals and Verses and can be occasionally seen at a local open mic and jam night
Her adaptability extends to virtual stages, with performances for iLive Soulfest Canada, Live Nation Middle East, and via live streaming on platforms like Lounges TV where she has hosted her own live shows . Kemi held a residency at The Blues Kitchen and continues to perform at corporate events, in the past this has included Discovery TV, Statkraft and Barclays.

Supporting the causes she stands for, Kemi has performed at the prestigious Global Queen Awards 2025 and the UN Women UK Awards 2024

Her various singles have been reviewed and praised amongst several platforms in the independent soul/ R&B communities. She has received rave reviews from the likes of 'You Know I Got Soul’, ‘SoulTracks’, ‘GRM Daily’, ‘Link UP Tv’, ‘New Wave Magazine’, ‘Creative Gen’, ‘The Blues project’ and many more.

She was interviewed live in Canada on I Live Radio for her release of 'Nothing Compares' back in 2019. Kemi’s music continues to receive radio play from many reputable radio stations, such as BBC shows presented by DJ Ace, Jeremiah Asiamah, Dj Target and Sian Anderson. Including different shows on

Capital Xtra, Reprezent Radio, No Signal Radio , Mi Soul radio, Soho Radio, The Beat London 103.6 and many more global radio stations. Her music has been play listed on Real buzz radio, I live radio in Canada,

and Neo2Soul radio. She has gained chart positions on the Breaking Artists independent chart show and The Urban Influencer for her music. She recently won the play-listing competition for her new song ‘IF’ on

Amazing Radio after being featured on the Audition show.

With a universal sound Kemi’s music resonates globally, with her music being played at stations such as J Wave radio , one of the biggest radio stations in Japan.

Her credibility and respect as an artist, has led to her being invited to join the Brit Award Voting Academy, where she was able to use her voice to nominate some of the most credible acts in British music for the prestigious Brit Award.
Kemi is a team member for the PRS Foundation, and was one of the first songwriters invited for the launching of the hitmaker fund.

Kemi has also received several awards and recognition for her work, such as winning ‘Most memorable Act' from the Music of the Soul platform in 2019, receiving an honorary award from the ‘AME Awards’ in 2017 for outstanding commitment and dedication to music and for ‘Best of the Week’ from the UK Entertainment Awards in 2021. She also has won ‘Tune of the Week’ for different songs by multiple platforms such as Global Soul, The Blues Project and I Live Radio. As of 2021 She won 'Best New Artist' by Style and Sound and The Golden Halo Awards.

Most recently she has received 'Most Memorable Act ' By MOTS live .

Bolstered by pop icon Janet Jackson sharing her music on Instagram and imploring Kemi to keep singing, Kemi’s work has also been commended by other industry professionals in the R&B genre such as award winning producers Calvin Haggins and Ivan Barias and other songwriters in the industry.

Therefore Kemi continues to prove why she’s on the rise within the UK’s R&B scene, this is seen through the feedback from many R&B Soul platforms and the individuals who support her music around the world.

Dedicated to community engagement, Kemi serves as an ambassador for organisations such as Girls Talk Global, supporting women in tech, and Sarcoidosis UK, where she shares the stories of fellow Neurosarcoidosis and Sarcoidosis patients. As a delegate for UN Women UK for two consecutive years, she advocates for gender equality.

Kemi has performed at charitable events for Haven House Children's Hospice and Crisis Homeless Charity, often performing at their Crisis At Christmas events and ATD Fourth World .

Her song "Justice", written in response to the murder of George Floyd and broader racial injustices and raised funds for BLAM Charity .

Meanwhile her song ‘New Form’ championed by DJ Target at BBC 1Xtra was used to raise awareness for her health condition and funds for Sarcoidosis UK.

As a freelance facilitator, Kemi leads music programmes for schools, churches, and youth centres in collaboration with various creative organisations. She is also an active member of The Ivors Academy, contributing to both the Education Working Group and Early Careers Council, where she advocates for the rights of songwriters and composers. Notably, she was among a select group invited to the Ivors roundtable that helped shape the first-ever Ivors Summit, held at the IMAX.

In addition to her individual work, Kemi is a member of several creative collectives including BLACQ Space, Black Create Connect, Soul Girl Collective, and Women in Cannes all rooted in the shared mission of uplifting and connecting creatives. She is currently developing her own community initiative in partnership with Sulola Music Studio (see next section).

Beyond her musical talents, Kemi showcases her creativity through visual storytelling. She conceptualised the animated music video for ‘In my Dreams’, " collaborating with animator Kevin SMY. The video received praise from industry figures and top animators like Galen Pehrson and Stephen Nixon. Kemi also scouted and arranged the Diaspora 7- Black Pride project, highlighting her skills in musical arrangement and direction involving 6 other women from all over the world.
Her innovative approach led to a commissioned AI song in collaboration with researchers from York University for her first AI infused song VTGO of which she leads on the keys and songwriting along with the further priduction of Harriet Raynor

In 2022, following a difficult period in her health journey, Kemi founded her own creative space what began as a personal sanctuary soon evolved into Sulola Music Studio. More than just a recording space, Sulola was built with a mission: to foster an inclusive and empowering environment for artists and music lovers alike.

The studio offers a range of services including artist development programmes, recording sessions, and collaborative songwriting opportunities. Notable initiatives include the Make Music: Artistic Foundational Programme, a 13-week course supported by Foundation for Future London and Sound Start, delivered in partnership with ELS Training Centre and funded by The Prince’s Trust.

Most recently, Kemi introduced the Air RnB Experience a unique offering for music lovers to craft personalised songs and enjoy a one of a kind musical gift experience.

But Sulola is more than a physical space it's a growing community. Kemi is building a platform rooted in education, artist development, and wellness, where creativity is nurtured and connection is encouraged.

Kemi's journey took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Neurosarcoidosis—a rare inflammatory disease affecting the nervous system. Despite the challenges, her love for music never wavered. She continued to write, release, and perform, including her single "New Form", which raised awareness and funds for Sarcoidosis UK.

Amid her ongoing healing process—something many can relate to—Kemi launched her YouTube vlog 'Everything is Healing'. , a candid space where she shares her experience of navigating health while staying connected to her creative spirit.

This chapter has also sparked a deepening interest in wellness for artists and creatives. She has collaborated with organisations like Music Support and the PRS Members’ Fund, contributed to the development of the In Tune App , spoken about in M Magazine, and worked with the SPOKE music and wellness platform.

Whether it’s free-styling backstage with Common, receiving unexpected encouragement from Janet Jackson, or pushing forward with unshakable determination, Kemi brings a rare blend of vulnerability, strength, and artistry. Her story is one of resilience but more than that, of returning home to purpose.

Now, with even more depth, fire, and clarity, she’s back to the heart of it all: the music. Currently working on new releases and diving deeper into her sound, the passion is stronger than ever.
